How can I check if my footwear is the right size?

Have you ever bought a pair of shoes that looked comfortable in the store, but then had problems with your nails? The right shoe size is crucial for both foot health and overall comfort. Let's look at how to check if your shoes are right for you, and what the ideal size should be.

1. Quick test - the indoor method

One of the easiest ways to determine if a shoe fits is to. indoor test. Remove the insole from the shoe and step on it with a bare or thin sock. If your toes and heel fit comfortably on the insole without overhanging the edges, then the shoe is the right size (as in the picture on the right!). If your toes overhang or your heel is tight against the edge, your shoes are too small.

2. Shoulder room test

There should be enough space in front of the toes, about. 1 cm free space between the longest toe and the front of the shoe. This gives the toes room to move and prevents the pressure that can cause whistles, nail problems and deformities of the soles.

3. Latitude control

If the shoe pinches at the sides or you feel like your foot is "pressed in", it's a sign that the shoe is too narrow. At the same time, the shoe shouldn't "float" on your foot, because then your foot won't get enough support and friction can occur. With the right width shoe, you will feel that your foot is comfortably supported, but without uncomfortable pressure.

4. Carrier and ankle fit

Shoes should not rub at the ankles or slip easily off the heel. If there is too much space at the heel, the foot will move around in the shoe and cause friction. If the shoe pinches at the heel, it can cause painful whistles and pressure.

5. Evening trial

Feet tend to swell a little during the day, so it's a good idea to try on new shoes in the evening when your feet are a little bigger than they were in the morning. That way you can be sure your shoes will be comfortable at the end of a long day.

Why is the right size important?

Wrong footwear can cause foot fatigue, joint pain, ingrown toenails and more serious deformities such as hammer scars or hallux valgus. Good footwear supports the foot naturally, ensures correct posture and helps prevent health problems.
